Just wanted to tell you I’m not dead.
No, I’m very much alive and kicking. I began my internship at Stopp (Stockholm Post Production) a few weeks ago and I put all of my focus into that. I mean - man, just before the internship I started renovating my apartment. Needless to say, I’m living in the middle of a junkyard of dust and rubble here.
For time being I don’t have much to update the site with. So instead, I try to update my twitter now and then. You find me @JohanIdesjo
See you!

I’m already on my Christmas holiday! Haven’t had this kind of break from either school or job for quite some time, so I’m gonna enjoy it to the fullest. That means, I’ll have to paint my apartment and change the floors.. But also work with the pre-production for a short film that myself and a director friend are working on, script should be finished soon. Exciting!
I’ll also try to visit the company where I’m going to have my internship at as often I can before the actual internship begins. This year might be the ending of a decade, but it sure is the beginning of many things to come.
By the way, the picture above is my submission for a Pin Up Girl-contest held at Bobby Chiu’s blog. The prize is original art by Bill Presing. Wish me luck!
It’s time again. I’ve updated the showreel with my latest project.
As you can see, I have focused my reel on animation and it’s basically what I want to work with when I graduate from school. That aside, I know how to model, texture and light a 3D scene as well as pre-and post production.
Right now I’m looking for an internship, so if you’re a company looking for interns - give me a call!
Here we go, the showreel is up!
I’m going to take my time and break it down for those of you who are interested. I know I’m not the only one who like to have a peek behind the scenes.
I have chosen to show two projects in this first version of my showreel. Not that I haven’t done more stuff, but these projects show more of what I actually want to do in the business and that is first and foremost animation.
So first up is the project I want to break down for you. I made this together with two classmates (Lucas Pettersson and Marcus Åvall). I’m responsible for 40 seconds of animation and 3 of the 4 characters that are in it. It was done in a couple of months, and was quite a challenge since this was our first real animation.
Having that in mind we created a concept that was open enough to interpret and go wild with. In this case the evolution of some missing links.
As the director, animator and designer of concepts and backgrounds I had loads off fun stuff to do. Since you’ve already seen a clip from the film above in the reel, I’m going to show you a couple of production designs and explain more about our approach.

I tried to capture the mood of the environment by playing around with shapes and colors. I wanted this to be a playful and bright film. The characters had to have completely different silhouettes and personas.

The environment was designed to match the characters. I really wanted this to feel like a separate universe, and to use a phrase used during the production - “feel like the Muppets invades the Nobel prize banquette”.
The backgounds were split in three as you can see below - foreground, middleground and background. That way we could easily get more depth in the scene.

Since the harddrive we saved the early animation blocking stages on isn’t with us anymore, I’m afraid I can’t show you any of that stuff. But I’ll make sure to take the animation I’m currently working on and break that down for you when it’s finished in a couple of weeks. As a matter of fact, I might even post some playblasts later on this week.
Until then, take care!

So I’m just a couple of steps away from being done with the first version of my showreel.
It won’t be a long reel, but I want to take my time and break down the material in it. I like behind the scenes-stuff in dvd:s so I will present what I did in each project instead of just showing the results.
In the meantime, I organized and updated the Work section with some images.
The links are still very slow (and if you use Explorer they probably don’t work at all). In that case, just go back to the Main page where you can click yourself ahead.
Stay put

I’ve put most projects on ice right now, focusing on school. This fall I’ll put together a showreel and upload a bunch of concept sketches for the sake of my internship applications.
Hopefully I get some time on my hands to redesign the site, but until then have a look in the Work section where I’ve uploaded a couple of character sketches. Currently I’m trying a more Animation-sort of mannerism. Hope you’ll like it!
Cheers
/Johan

Lars from Uniforms interviewed me, you can read it HERE and make sure you also take a look at the short timelapse we shot while I made a Uniforms mural at PUB in Sthlm. Awesome music by the way, The Touch are responsible.
